5421. And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them. That this signifies perception and acknowledgment by the celestial of the spiritual, is evident from the signification of "seeing," as being perception (see n. 2150, 3764, 4567, 4723); from the representation of Joseph, as being the celestial of the spiritual (n. 5417); from the signification of "his brethren, "as being the general truths of the church (also spoken of above, n. 5419); and from the signification of "knowing," as being acknowledgment from perception.
